The conference was inaugurated by Sh. Raman Watts, President Bhatinda Chamber of Commerce & Industries and Sh. Joy Lakra, Senior General Manager (Production Engineering) Maruti Udyog Ltd. presided over the function. The Key note speaker on the occasion was Dr. Ramesh C. Kuhad, Prof. Microbiology, Delhi University Delhi. Sh. Manjot Singh, Secretary Bhatinda Chamber of Commerce & Industries, Dr. D.S. Mor, Director CDLMEC Panniwala mota, Industrialists Sh. Nitin Garg and Prince, Mr. Sunil Dhingra, UIET MDU were the Special Guests on the occasion.

The Convener Prof Dr. Gurcharan Dass, Principal, JCDM College of Engineering welcomed all the guests and participants. He said that engineering design and construction industry is characterised by its innovative use of design and technology together with the best safety and environmental practices. Technology enables the industry to create new designs, increase yields, improve safety, reduce environmental impact and operate in remote and extreme locations. Further detailing on the conference, he introduced the eminent people who converse at the conference which included Prof. Raveesh Garg Reader GJU Hisar, Dr. Rajesh Khanna, Prof. and Head (ECE), Thapar University Patiala, Dr. D.P. GuptA, Director HCTM Kaithal, Dr. H.N.P. Srivastva, Prof. (EEE) JCDM College of Engineering, Dr. N.S. Bhal Senior advisor cum Chief Coordinator JCDM College of Engineering and Dr. Vinod Kumar Dean R & D JCDM College of Engineering.

Speaking about the theme and concept of the conference, Dr. Shamim Sharma, Managing Director, JCD Vidyapeeth said that the different components of the environment keep on interacting with each other to maintain a mutual balance known as ecological balance in nature. Without disturbing this balance how and what could be the constructive, ethical & purposeful path of development, thinkers at the conference will chalk out a mechanism.

Addressing the audience Chief Guest said that man's desire for ultimate joy and comfort has led him to exploit nature's free gifts to the extent of reducing its natural capacities for self stabilization. This has resulted into numerous environmental problems. The problems may appear small on global level but is quite severe locally.

Presiding over the inaugural session Sh. Raman Watts stressed the need of development based on a balanced approach to the eco-system, a world view which India has been developing down the centuries.

The Guest of Honor highlighted the extent of the issue of environment degradation in light of traditional and cultural contexts. He emphasized that environment is an issue of global concern and highlighted India’s role in constitutionalizing the subject.

In the first session 37 papers from the field of Computer Science& Engineering and Information Technology were presented. Academicians and researchers of concerned field came together to share their thoughts and expertise on the theme.

Mr. Arabinda Sharma, through his presentation stated the Effect of Cell Size of Digital Elevation Model on Soil Loss prediction in Methane Catchment. He suggested that a choice for a certain grid cell size should be made before calibration of the model. Similar erosion models are likely to have similar dependencies on DEM grid size.

Ms. Maneesha Gupta also presented the comparison of Discrete Cosine Transformation and Wave Based Coding and suggested that the image compression algorithm should be addressed from the overall system viewpoints of quantization, entropy coding and the complex interplay among elements of the coding system rather than spending all the efforts on optimizing the transform.

Dr. N.S. Bhal, Senior advisor cum Chief co-coordinator JCDM College of Engineering, Dr. Ram Murti Goyal, DTPO JCD Vidyapeeth, Ms. Sukhdeep Kaur, H.O.D (ECE) and Co-Convener, Ms. Lekha Bhambu, H.O.D (CSE) and Co-Convener, Mr. G.L. Garg, Assistant Registrar, JCDM College of Engineering, Principals of all the colleges of Vidyapeeth, faculty members and students were also present to grace the occasion.
